The clearer the picture of your future is in front of your inner eye, the better you can see your way. The vision board is a magical tool to visualize and manifest your wishes, dreams, aspirations and life vision. Your vision board is created when you bring your dreams, goals and visions together as a collage using images, quotes, illustrations, photos and text.

Why use a vision board?
The great thing about a vision board is that through your clearly visualized visions you already know subconsciously what the next steps are and already act in accordance with your visions. This way, doubts have much less power and you attract people, moments and events into your life that will support you on your path.

Personally, the vision board helps me especially whenever I seem to be on the verge of giving up. I currently have a full-time job and am studying part-time to get my Masters degree in Content Strategy at the FH Joanneum in Graz. Although the program is very well structured and allows work + study, I have my work cut out for me and it’s not always easy. However, at the beginning of the studies I visualized for myself on how I see myself when I hand over my Master thesis and receive my degree (and the big celebration that will come with it) and exactly this visualization is now to become reality and drives me.

“I’ve never tried to do that before. So I’m completely confident that I can do it.” — Pippi Langstrumpf

This is how you create your vision board in 4 steps

1. Define your goals and visions

  • Dream big: Take a piece of paper and write down your goals and visions. It is important that you do not set any limits. That is, be brave and write down everything that makes your heart beat faster. Don’t be irritated by the voice that tells you it’s impossible or that you’ll never achieve it. The bigger the better!
  • Areas of Life: To become clearer about your goals, I recommend you divide your goals into life areas, which could be the following: Money & Finances / Love & Partnership / Professional Fulfillment / Further Education / Spatial Environment, Place of Residence / Leisure, Adventure & Vacation / Fitness & Health / Mental Health / Social Engagement / Family & Friendship
  • Time Period: In addition to dividing your goals and visions into your life areas, it makes sense to assign them to a time period. Personally, I find it easier to set goals for a shorter time (1–2 years) so that the whole thing doesn’t become too superficial.

2. Give your goals and visions a picture

  • Creativity: Now it’s time to get creative and collect your goals and visions in the form of images, quotes, texts, photos and illustrations. Here you can use anything you feel visually reflects your goals to your heart’s content.
  • Analog or digital: Even though we won’t get to the physical design of the vision board until the next step, you already have to decide at this point whether you want to create the vision board in digital or analog form. I recommend that you print out the images, etc. In my experience, the effect is greater when you have something physically in front of you.
  • Tip: Cut out suitable images and texts from magazines. Pinterest is also a great place to get inspiration and find suitable images that you can print out. You’ll find lots of inspiration for this on Pinterest. Of course, you can also get creative yourself and, for example, write down or paint quotes or motivating things.
  • Organize: If you have all the pictures, etc. together, then arrange them best according to the areas of life. Then you already have a structure here and the design of your vision board will be easier.

3. Design your vision board

  • Analog vision board: There are no limits to your creativity when designing your vision board. The goal is to arrange your visual goals and visions as a collage on a background that you like. For example, a poster, wooden board, pin board… I converted an old wooden door into my vision board. The individual areas of life help you to structure your images on your background.
  • Digital vision board: If you have chosen the digital vision board, then you are almost done. Arrange your visual goals and visions like a collage according to the areas of your life. Just as it is coherent for you. The digital vision board is very suitable as a screen or cell phone background. I discovered a great tool for this here.

4. Find the perfect place for your vision board

  • Placement: Now that you have your vision board created and ready, it needs the right place. Your vision board should stand or hang where you see it every day, so that every day your goals and visions are in front of your eyes and they anchor more and more in your subconscious. You will see, magical things will happen.

If you are more into short-term planning, here’s a nice blog post by one of my colleagues where she talks about how to stay organized:

5 Ways to always stay organized

I wish you lots of joy in creating your vision board as well as visualizing and manifesting your targets. And of course — all the best for 2022!
